Please
note: before beginning your Data Import into GoldMine that while
your CompuLEAD unit can support up to 99 qualifiers, your GoldMine
database CAN NOT. Because GoldMine has a field limitation, you
will first need to import your file into Excel
and then delete any columns containing no data.
-
Open
GoldMine.
-
Click on
File Menu, click New Database.
-
Enter
the name/description of the new database (verify that dBASE
data files is checked), click Next.
-
Enter
a path for your new database in the “Create a new contact
database” field (ex. C:\My
Documents\GoldMine\), or click on the box to the right of the
field to browse, select a path, and click OK.
-
Click
“Create empty tables” to create a blank database.
-
Set
"Allow access to" (if any), click Next.
-
Click
Finish.
Import Your Text into Your New Database:
-
Open
database you created above.
-
Click
File Menu, click Open Database, select file, click Open File.
-
While
your new database is open, click Tools Menu, click Import/Export
Wizard, click Import Contact Records.
-
Select
“Import a new file” and “ASCII file", click Next.
-
Enter
the path and filename of the file you are importing or click
on the box to the right of the field and locate the file,
click Next.
-
At
this point you should be able to preview the data in the file
prior to importing. For
easier field mapping, you may now rename Gold Mine’s default
“Label Names” to corresponding fields in the file by
double-clicking on the Labels.
(Example: Double-click
on “Label005” to change it to corresponding field:
FirstName). When
you are finished click NEXT to continue.
-
To
map fields, select a label from the “Import Fields”, then select
the corresponding from the “GoldMine Fields” and click on
the “Map to GM” tab (not all of the fields listed have to be
mapped, you
can skip fields such as “Booth #”, “Show Name”, etc.).
Note:
First Name and Last Name fields are separate fields.
You should Map both of the fields to the “Contact”
field under “GoldMine Fields”.
-
Click
Next. You
will now have a choice to save the import profile and its
field mapping for future use (if you are unsure, choose not to save the file).
-
Click
Next, click Finish.
