Please
note: before beginning your Data Import into ACT! that while
your CompuLEAD unit can support up to 99 qualifiers, your ACT!
database CAN NOT. Because ACT! has a field limitation, you
will first need to import your file into Excel
and then delete any columns containing no data.
Create a New Database to Import to:
-
Open
ACT, click File Menu.
-
Click
on NEW.
-
Click
on ACT! 3.0 DATABASE, choose OK.
-
Give
your new database a file name ending in .DBF, then click SAVE.
-
Your
new database is now created.
Import Your Text into Your New Database:
-
While
your new database is open click FILE.
-
Click
DATA EXCHANGE and a box will appear to the right, click IMPORT.
-
In
the dialog box under "File Type", click on
TEXT-DELIMITED,
under “Filename & location“ click on the right
button with three periods in it.
-
An
open file dialog box will appear; choose the correct drive and
filename, then click OPEN.
-
Click
NEXT, choose CONTACT RECORDS.
-
Click
NEXT, choose whether or not to use a pre-defined map.
(If you have never imported a CompuLEAD Data Diskette
before, choose not to use a predefined map).
Field
Mapping Options:
-
You
will need your CompuLEAD Data Diskette Record Layout for the
next part.
-
Click
NEXT, a box with two columns will appear; the left column
will list out the first row of your data file; each row will
be a different field.
-
Click
on the fields in the right column and a down arrow will
appear, click on the DOWN ARROW and a drop-down box will
appear; scroll through the list of fields and choose the
correct field name (You will want to exclude the first two
fields (Booth # and Show Name)).
-
Repeat
the above step until all rows you want to import have a field
name; when finished click on FINISH.
*
Note: First
Name and Last Name fields are separate fields and in order to get
them into the contact field you must Map them to the First and
Last name field choices.
